The Los Altos Chapter, NSDAR, founded in February 1950, promotes friendship and service.   Our members provide hundreds of hours of community service in the larger Los Altos area (including Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Los Altos Hills).

The Los Altos Chapter in partnership with the Gaspar de Portola Chapter will host an exciting patriotic event on April 19th commemorating the first battle of the American Revolution, the "Shot heard 'round the world" in Lexington, Massachusetts.  Join us in Los Altos, 6:30 to 8:00 pm!  Learn more here.

The chapter's activities promote education, historic preservation, conservation, and patriotism.

  • annual scholarship for Foothill College student continuing their education at a four-year institution
  • annual American History essay contest for students in grades 5 through 8
  • local historic preservation projects such as our recent project, Early Settlers of Old Los Altos/Mountain View  (Copies may be downloaded, or printed copies may be viewed at the Santa Clara County Historical & Genealogical Society, the Santa Clara County Library District (housed at the Los Altos branch), the Family History Library in Los Altos, and other selected locations.)
  • The chapter documented 100 chapter patriots and put their Revolutionary War Details, Rank, Patriot Number Service, Birth/Death dates and locations, Family Information, and more.
  • projects providing comfort and support to veterans at the Palo Alto VA Hospital
  • card-writing to veterans and active duty military
