Stars have been added to the flag as new states join the union, the latest addition on August 21, 1959 when Hawaii was admitted to the Union. | ||

| Feb 6 | 250th Anniversary of the Treaty of Alliance and Treaty of Amity and Commerce with France: The American Colonies and France signed the Treaty of Alliance on February 6, 1778, formalizing France’s financial and military support for the revolutionary government in America. The two sides agreed that neither France nor the United States would make peace with England until the independence of the United States was recognized. With this treaty, France recognized the United States as an independent nation and promoted trade between France and the United States. | ||
